Didn't Work Out. Ate Bacon Instead.

I hate working out. I really do. I love how I feel afterwards, but getting my butt in the gym is a difficult task.

Today I worked, came home, and Beckett cooked his famous breakfast. We had Grace over and then me and her decided to go to Target.

Target. I have problems with Target. It seems no matter what you buy you're not walking out of that store spending less than $100. And I even avoided the clothes!! I guess I could have gone to Wal-Mart but the one in my neck of the woods is scary ghetto. Not people of Wal-Mart funny ghetto, but don't make eye contact because will get shanked ghetto. So I guess paying the extra money is alright if it means I get to keep all toes and fingers.

I bought The Rum Diary. One of Thompson's books I have not read yet. I'm pretty excited about it. So my goal tomorrow is to work out and read some more in my book.

Not a bad Monday!

Work kind of dragged on but it wasn't too bad. I actually wrote a blog and it should be up by tomorrow. We have our big event next week so things are about to get super hectic.

I worked out today! Yay! I think if I force myself to write every day it will help me stick to a routine. Beckett (fiance) played golf and I picked up salmon for me to cook. He's been so great cooking me dinner almost every night, I wanted to do the same for him.

Here's what I did. In a small bowl I combined olive oil and then a bunch of random seasonings. I think I used a bit of mustard, curry powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, a dash of cayenne pepper and some minced garlic. I brushed the salmon with the oil/seasoning mix and topped it off with chopped green onion and thyme. I baked it at 350 for about 15 minutes then the turned the oven all the way off just to keep it warm.

My sides were brown rice and steamed veggies. Buying a steamer was seriously one of the best investments we've ever made!! I steamed zucchini, squash, broccoli and green onion. A VERY healthy dinner for less than $10! The salmon filets were fresh and cheap and too!

Now I'm sipping on red wine enjoying the next few hours before bed time. Yup, not a bad Monday at all!

Will the workout routine continue tomorrow!? I guess we'll see!

P.S. I found this on stumbleupon and wanted to share:

Let's Write

Haven't written in months and I need to get back into it so I'm going to write something ever day. Well I'm gonna try.

Today: Perfect lazy Sunday filled with football, iced tea and pizza. Slept until 1 and made a pallet on the floor with my wonderful fiance. Looked into learning how to sew, wrote a blog for Social Media Club, called my mom, cleaned out my car and updated my iPod. Also wrote my friend Shawn a letter. He's in the Malawi and in the peace core.

Decided to start an inspirational journal. I will print out pictures and write little notes of things that insipre me. What will I write about tomorrow? Hope to start working out again this week. Also, I need to stay away from bacon. I've learned this is my greatest weakness and is available to me every day from the kitchen at work. Bastards.

Until tomorrow :)

The Importance of Screwing Up

Today I worked really hard on a project and then realized when I was finished, I screwed up. Not royally screwed up, but enough to drink a quick beer, take a break, and slap my forehead with a "duh!" By this time it was almost 6 and I wanted to get out, enjoy the day and grab a bite to eat.

So I did. And now I'm curled up in bed with a trusty cup of espresso ready to fix my boo-boo (after this quick blog post of course!) As I braved the last grainy swallow of the bottom of my espresso, I realized, wow--I'm 100% OK with the fact that I've made a mistake. My tail isn't between my legs and I'm ready to tackle this project and kick its ass.

What I want to know is, how long does it normally take for the average person to finally realize it's ok to screw up every once in a while? I don't feel like it should be 23 year-old recent college graduate.

With this economy, recent college grads are scrapping for jobs. When a job is finally rewarded to young scholars, they know how easily replaceable they are and will walk on pins and needles to be sure not to make mistakes.

What lesson will they learn if they are afraid to fail? Failing is essential to building a strong character. If we don't fail, how will we ever gain knowledge from the mistakes we made?

As ridiculous as this sounds, I like to think of failing like a continuos game of Jenga. We build what we believe is a solid structure. But no matter how strong and together we can appear, a piece will be taken out that will cause a crumble. Either we learn and rebuild, or we stay as a crumble.

I'm encouraging all employers to reassure employees that if they make a few mistakes here and there, it's OK. When we fail, we rebuild, we learn and we grow. Without failure, we will stand still.

Can't. Stop. Eating.

Ok this one is for all my foodies out there!

So the plan was once I got to San Francisco was to work off this extra weight I've gained. I figured running up those hills 5 times a week should do the trick. Well, as it turns out, the neighborhood I'm living in is foodie central. I can get anything from Indian, Mexican, and down-home cooking all in a walking distance. As a result, I've surrender myself to these restaurants and will get back on the "eating healthy, working out, blah blah blah track," when the food is just a little less tasty.

Here is what I'm dealing with............

The Front Porch.

Down home-cooking, damn good brunch, lunch all with a cajun twist.  There chicken-n-waffels are mind-blowing!!! This is seriously some of the best fried chicken I've ever had and that's coming from a southern girl! There mimosas are large, and the service is always great. I'll be getting a t-shirt from this place!

Moki's Sushi & Pacific Grill

Seriously, good fresh sushi.  This is one of those places you can come every week because of the reasonable prices and impecable service.  The owner is always there, working his butt off with his employees, and making sure all of the customers are happy.  But back to the food!! The Volcano and Kamikaze Rolls are delightfully spicy with a combination of fresh vegetables and fish. The sauce on top brings all of the flavors together that makes you put away the soy, wasabi, and ginger. Also, this place has the best mismo soup and sake I've ever had. When you leave this place, you're literally in a food coma!

Two Jacks Seafood

During Lent each year, the small church I grew up going to in Nada, Texas has a fish fry every Friday evening.  Every Friday, over 1,000 people flood this little hall to get a plate of amazing fried catfish, french fries, hush puppies and coleslaw. Last Friday, I started to get a little homesick so I went to my best friend, yelp to see if my fried fish craving could be cured. That's when I found Two Jacks Seafood.  This place is a dive off of Haight Street. You order at the counter and hope to find a table in this tiny location.  My food craving was beyond satisfied! I had the fried catfish and fried red snapper combo and it tasted like home! The sides were nothing to brag about, but I will be returning for the fish!

Moonlight Cafe

Great breakfast place! You can get anything from crepes to omelets at any time of the day. I had the chicken pesto crepe with a pomegranate mimosa. The chicken in the crepe was cooked perfectly. Not too dry or greasy. You could tell it was fresh chicken breast. The pomegranate mimosa, was OK but I've had much better. I'll be sticking with their house coffee which has a bold flavor.

Zante Pizza & Indian

What a strange, wonderful combination! This place is pizza with Indian food on top of it. Sounds strange? Well, it is but in the best way possible! There is so much flavor and spice to this stuff! Who says you can't have the best of both worlds?

Scoma's

Best seafood place to eat on Fisherman's Warf.  The atmosphere is pretty nice and it get's packed at night time. It's a little pricey but definitely worth it. I stuck with the fixed menu and had the clam chowder that was good enough to be in Boston, the seared tuna with vegetables, and the tiramisu for desert. All of it was groan worthy good and I wanted to fall asleep at the table.

So that's all I have for right now but I'll be sure to add more once I try some new places. If there's anywhere I should try or any type of food you'd like me to try, leave a comment!

So I'm in this little town called San Francisco

I'm set to be here for 6 weeks. I'm working part time for Social Media Club and living in the fabulous Bernal Heights neighborhood where the people are friendly and the food is random and delicious.

Bernal living in an artist's house while she and her husband visit their resort in Thailand--you know, the usual business trip. It's a cozy 2 bedroom/ 1 bathroom with a bunch of art and stuff everywhere that gives it an eccentric, warm feeling. Much better than staying in a hotel for 6 weeks. And for the 3 of us living there (me, my boyfriend, and my boyfriend's co-worker), it's not too crowded.

So far my job is great. I'm a little nervous though and somewhat rusty since I haven't worked since December. I'm excited to get the gears in my brain grinding once again and hope that I do well.

I've only been here for a week and I'm already in love with this city. These next few weeks I plan to soak every bit of it up since the future is unknown. I feel very fortunate at this moment. I'm living in a beautiful, fabulous city, I have a job, and I have the love of a partner, many friends, and close family. It may have taken me to move across the country to realize this, but it is all soaking in now.

Catching Up because it's been way too long!

I have posted anything since October and I really don't have a good excuse. So instead of giving a million reasons why I haven't posted anything, I'm just going to give a quick update.

November

Went to Montreal with my boyfriend. It was amazing and I can't wait to go back! Thanksgiving was awesome and I ate a lot of food.

December

Quit my job at the bar, graduated, celebrated Christmas, and turned 23.

January

Applied for numerous jobs with no luck. Going to Houston every weekend to see the boyfriend. Went to New Orleans and had a blast.

February

Moving to San Francisco for 6 weeks then to San Diego for another 6 weeks with the boyfriend. I figured I'm 23 and need to go on some sort of adventure. Sad to leave my apartment aka my "woman cave" but excited to see what the next chapter is in my life.

So that's the summary of my life for the past couple of months. Not that it is important or that anyone should really care.

So to make this post more interesting, here is a picture of a guy passed outside of a club on Burbon Street. We watched this guy get his money taken from a shot girl (he bought her whole tray) then kicked out of the club for being too drunk. I felt obligated to take a picture next to him :)

Breaking the Unwritten Rules in Society

Everyone knows you're not supposed to stand directly next to someone in an elevator. It's one of those unwritten rules of society. In a small space? Back away from my bubble. Common sense right? Same thing goes for the "sitting right next to someone when there's plenty of extra space" rule. In my researching class, we were asked to break one of these rules of society. I chose to invade someone's personal space.

I went to the library one night to study when I noticed each person was sitting at their own table. It was as if each person had built their own little colony. Books, bags, paper and laptops were spread all over the large tables marking each person's territory. I decided to stand up to this colonization and stun the general by sitting at the same table that he claimed.  Immediately the tough general with his army of books, pencils, and spirals began to feel uncomfortable. Finally the general pulled his troops out and went on to settle a new colony that was directly across from the colony I just claimed. Hopefully this time an invader won't come into the general's new colony and take over.

Essay Exams.......what's the point?

So I took my media law exam on Monday. It was probably one of the hardest tests I've ever taken. The review was not that similar and all of the questions were in essay format. I either did ok or completely bombed it. Why do professors choose to do an essay exam? I mean com'on......really? You really love media law that much to read over 100 blue books with half ass answers because no one understands what the hell is going on? Why not make it multiple choice where I can find out sooner what I made and you won't have to spend forever grading? I mean none of us are going to law school and if we ever do run into a situation where we need help guess what? We're gonna hire a lawyer!!

So that's my rant. Essay tests=a waste of time.
